The National Library of Latvia centenary celebrations on 31 August will be concluded by a high-quality concert in two parts – Latvian Chamber Music and Improvisation – in the Ziedonis Hall.

The concert combines different musical styles, professional Latvian instrumentalists and composers of different generations from different countries, and is a salutation to the library on its anniversary. The programme includes world and Latvian premieres, as well as original and folk-music improvisations, in both classical and jazz styles, in contemporary arrangements.

Latvian chamber music is represented by outstanding instrumentalists such as Ilona Kudiņa (flute, USA), Paula Šūmane (violin, Latvia) and Ventis Zilberts (piano, Latvia).

The programme includes works by Dace Aperāne (USA), Pēteris Aldiņš (USA), Anita Kupriss (USA), Imants Ramiņš (Canada) and Lolita Ritmanis (USA).

The improvisation segment will be performed by Ilona Kudiņa’s jazz quintet, made up of progressive artists such as Toms Rudzinskis (saxophone, Germany), Tuomo Uusitalo (piano, USA), Reinis Ozoliņš (double bass, Latvia) and Andris Buiķis (drums, Latvia).
The line-up is completed by Una Stade (vocal, Latvia) and the young promising jazz flutist Rūta Sīpola (Latvia).

Entrance to the concert is free.
