Toms Rudzinskis’ new project ABYSS invites listeners on a musical journey of self-discovery
Heavily rhythmic and melodic, incorporating the improvised and unexpected, bending the jazz, classical and rock influences of band members, united by one of the leading Baltics’ jazz saxophone players and composers Toms Rudzinskis, ABYSS plays a fusion of avant-garde and jazz exploring the possibilities of electronics.
Having stirred the Berlin underground Jazz and Improvised music scene, the project brings together some of the most exciting and fresh faces from Jazz in Europe, a treat for Jazz and improvised music as well as all music lovers alike. The quintet paints their musical journey with expressive strokes, intense, collaborative improvisation and epic yet intricate live sound, stepping out of the jazz club and on to the festival stage.
Inspired by mythologists Campbell’s “hero with thousand faces” and Jung’s collective subconsciousness theory, Rudzinskis’ original music, written for the specific musicians and their musical influences, is connected with the thread of a contemporary person’s search for answers. A journey through the Abyss of not knowing towards the discovery of understanding and meaning, it is musical storytelling at its best.
ABYSS debut recording is due to be released in Spring 2020.
